So, I decided to do a classical music survey for my daughter this year. I pulled the idea from several sources, so this is a bit of a fusion, and you can probably tell it reflects a certain musical bias. What can I say? I have strong opinions about classical music. The list will probably be updated from time to time during our year, but I thought I’d put it up here in case anyone wants to follow along at home. It took me several hours (and my daughter’s godmother contributed too, I don’t know how long she spent collecting links for me) and I figure I’m not the only one wanting to have something like this. I just pinned the links to the works below here. Mostly because I want my daughter to listen to them at her leisure, but I don’t particularly like how easy it is to stray into questionable territory directly on Youtube. In Pinterest, the video plays in the pin, so it is at least slightly more difficult to get exposed to adult links. If you have concerns about such things, you may want to keep an eye out. Some of the ads can be downright inappropriate. I always let my daughter use technology only in earshot/eyeshot of me to keep a lid on things.
To all the people on Pinterest: Sorry for bombing your feeds. My projects happen in big spurts like this. : D
Anyhow, here’s the list. It’s shorter than the school year, because I know there are weeks when this is going to not get done. We’ll try to read a little about each composer if I can get a book at the library… if not, maybe a quick bio from wikipedia will suffice. I plan on playing these pieces several times as we work on our other projects. I want repeated exposure so they really sink in. If anyone has some suggestions of favorite pieces/composers not listed here, please comment! I would love to hear your favorites! Hope this is helpful to someone!
